Artist's Bio

James Ottina is a Los Angeles based multi-media artist, who works both abstractly and figuratively. He received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

His use of video as a medium stems from an interest in finding the juxtaposition of stillness and movement. This creates the temporal qualities inclusive of, and uniquely expressed by the human condition and its universality. The internal exploration of the self yields provocative works that express the full range of emotion.

He has experimented in a wide variety of media, from stone lithography to installation works.

“I am constantly trying to destroy the concept of art as being a retelling of reality, Ottina says. I have done a number of professions in my life, yet art remains a constant. I once almost got fired from a construction job for sculpting a face from the leftover wall-patch compound!”
